JENSEN BEACH — Broadcasting live from Barnes & Noble bookstore Saturday, Dr. Isabel Gómez-Bassols doled out her brand of advice to Treasure Coast residents on her nationally syndicated Spanish-language radio show.
After speaking one-on-one with audience members at the bookstore, Gómez-Bassols signed copies of her new book “Los 7 Pasos Para Ser Mas Feliz,” “The 7 Steps to be Happier” in English.
Her message Saturday: “The most important thing to do is realize the obstacles in your life that are keeping you from success.”
“You have to have a dialogue with yourself and reject negative thoughts,” said Gómez-Bassols, 63. “Surround yourself with positive people. And everyday when you wake up, take note of three things that are a blessings in your life and write them down before you go to bed.”
Gómez-Bassols, who counsels and comforts callers from around the country weekdays from 1 to 4 p.m., is featured on La Gigante 1330 AM. The show began airing locally in August.
From marital advice to tips for raising children, the school psychologist-turned-talk show host has on the air with the Univision Radio network since 1997.
Fort Pierce resident Leticia Granados — one of about 100 who attended Saturday’s event — said Isabel Gómez-Bassols lives up to her nickname “La Angel de la radio” or the “radio angel.”
“I listen to her every day,” said Granados, a married mother of four. “She helps me a lot with my children and with how to talk about your problems. I’ve learned a lot from her.”
Granados’ daughter, Maria, also credits the show for helping their family relate to one another better.
“It’s easier to talk to my mom now,” said Maria, 17. “She’s a lot less stressed since she started listening.”
